Millions of Pakistanis living in the UK, the USA and the Gulf send money home every month. Fintech apps were fighting hard for those transfers with speed and low fees. The bank needed to win on something they couldn't copy.
Three audiences pretending to be one
The easy approach would have been one campaign translated for each country. But these weren't the same audience in different places. They behaved differently in almost every way that matters to a remittance campaign.
- Timing: workers in the Gulf tend to send money on weekends, while professionals in the UK and USA send around month-end.
- Devices: the Gulf audience is overwhelmingly mobile-first, while Western audiences were reachable on desktop as well as Facebook and Instagram.
- Competition: each market had its own mix of international banks and fintech apps.
- Compliance: every message had to meet strict financial regulations in all three regions.
Not geo-targeting. Geo-strategy.
The plan
A separate campaign for every region
The UK, the USA and the Gulf (UAE, Saudi Arabia and Qatar) each got their own campaign, built around local currency, local sending peaks and the local competition. Gulf ads peaked at weekends, Western ads around month-end.
Compete on trust and speed, not just price
Fintechs can always undercut on fees. A bank can't be beaten on security and regulatory standing. The messaging led with that, while still making speed and zero hidden fees clear.
Design for how each audience actually browses
Vertical video and mobile-optimised landing pages for the Gulf. Desktop display creative for the UK and USA. Same brand, built for the screen people were really using.
Two channels, two jobs
Google Display kept the bank visible across the wider diaspora. Meta carried community-level messages that spoke to shared identity and trusted networks. Every word was checked against financial compliance rules in each market.
The results
| Metric | Before | After |
|---|---|---|
| Markets reached | One generic message | 3 tailored strategies |
| Campaign reach | Limited | Millions of impressions |
| Search interest in the bank's remittance service | Baseline | Measurable increase |
| CPM in UK and US markets | Expensive | Kept efficient through precise targeting |
| Positioning | One option among many | Trusted formal remittance channel |
The PKR 5M campaign reached millions of overseas Pakistanis across all three regions, and searches for the bank's remittance service rose measurably, a clear sign that awareness was turning into intent. Precise targeting kept costs per thousand impressions efficient, even in the expensive UK and US ad markets.
Most importantly, the bank strengthened its position as the trusted formal channel for sending money home, supporting both its commercial goals and the national push to increase legal remittance inflows.
The lesson
If your audience is spread across countries, treating them as one group guarantees wasted budget. Match the message, the timing and the format to how each market really behaves.
