In September 2026, Google handled 95.1% of all searches in Pakistan (StatCounter). Pakistan also had around 117 million internet users by October 2025 (DataReportal). Put those two numbers together and the conclusion is simple. Whatever you sell, from apartments in Bahria Town to IELTS classes in Lahore to industrial pumps in Faisalabad, your next customer is typing it into Google right now.
So why do so many business owners tell me, “Google Ads doesn’t work for us”?
Not long ago a business owner sat across from me with a printout of his Google Ads dashboard. Thousands of clicks, a healthy click-through rate and a conversion count that looked brilliant. His bank balance told a different story. When we opened the account, every tap on the WhatsApp button was being counted as a sale, and three campaigns were bidding against each other for the same searches. Google Ads wasn’t failing him. The way it was managed was.
That is what this guide is about. I’ll walk you through how Google Ads works in Pakistan in 2026, what it really costs, which campaign types fit which business, the mistakes I see every week, and how to tell whether your ads are making money. Think of it as the first meeting I’d have with you as a client, before any proposal is on the table.
Key takeaways
- Google Ads captures demand that already exists. Meta ads create demand. Most growing businesses need both, in that order of priority for high-intent products.
- There is no fixed “Google Ads price”. Your cost depends on the auction: competition, Quality Score and the bid strategy you choose.
- Start with Search campaigns and clean conversion tracking. Add Performance Max, Shopping or YouTube once you have data.
- The most expensive mistake isn’t a high cost per click. It’s measuring the wrong conversions and scaling the wrong campaigns.
- Give a properly built account 30 to 90 days before judging it, and judge it on cost per qualified lead or ROAS, not clicks.
Is Google Ads worth it for businesses in Pakistan in 2026?
Yes, for any business whose customers search before they buy. That covers real estate, education, healthcare, home services, B2B suppliers, travel, legal and most e-commerce categories. The reason is intent. Someone searching “best IELTS academy in Islamabad” or “solar panel installation price Lahore” has already decided they need something. Your ad appears at the moment they are deciding who to buy from.
Who is searching on Google in Pakistan right now?
The audience is bigger and more mixed than most people assume. According to DataReportal’s Digital 2026 report, Pakistan had about 117 million internet users (45.6% of the population) and 194 million cellular connections by late 2025. YouTube’s advertising reach alone was around 54.3 million people. Most of this traffic is on mobile, often switching between Urdu, Roman Urdu and English in the same search.
Three groups matter most for advertisers:
- Urban decision-makers in Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Faisalabad and Multan, searching for services, schools, clinics and suppliers.
- Overseas Pakistanis in the Gulf, the UK and North America, searching for property, investment, family services and education back home. In FY25 they sent a record $38.3 billion in remittances (Profit / SBP data).
- B2B buyers researching suppliers, software and contractors. They rarely click social ads but search Google repeatedly before they call.
Google Ads vs Facebook ads: which brings better leads in Pakistan?
They do different jobs. Google Search captures people who already want what you sell, so lead quality is usually higher and volume is limited by search demand. Meta (Facebook and Instagram) reaches people before they search, so it is better for new products, visual offers and building demand, with cheaper leads that need more filtering.
| Factor | Google Ads (Search) | Meta ads (Facebook & Instagram) |
|---|---|---|
| Buyer intent | High: the person is actively searching | Low to medium: you interrupt their scroll |
| Best for | Services, B2B, urgent needs, high-ticket purchases | New products, fashion, food, events, visual offers |
| Cost per click | Higher | Lower |
| Lead quality | Usually higher | Mixed; needs qualifying questions |
| Scale | Limited by how many people search | Large audiences, easy to scale |
| Typical role | Capture demand and close | Create demand and retarget |
In my accounts the strongest results come from running both: Google to catch buyers who are ready, and Meta to build awareness and retarget visitors who left without calling. If you can only afford one and your product is something people search for, start with Google. If they don’t search for it yet, start with Meta ads.
How does Google Ads work, and how much does it cost in Pakistan?
Google Ads is an auction, run again for every single search. You never pay a fixed price per click. You pay just enough to beat the advertiser ranked below you, and that depends on their bids, your bid and the quality of your ad.
How the Google Ads auction decides your cost per click
Every time someone searches, Google decides which ads to show and in what order using Ad Rank. Ad Rank combines your bid with your Quality Score: how relevant your ad is to the search, how likely people are to click it, and how good your landing page experience is. A well-built account with high Quality Scores can rank above a competitor while paying less per click.
That is why two businesses in the same city and industry can pay very different amounts for the same keyword. One has a tightly themed campaign that sends “MBA admission Lahore” to an MBA admission page. The other sends every search to its homepage. Google rewards the first and taxes the second.
How much budget do you need to start Google Ads in Pakistan?
Work backwards from the result you need, not forwards from a round number. The simple formula I use with clients is:
Monthly budget = target leads (or sales) per month × expected cost per lead (or sale)
Your expected cost per lead comes from your keywords’ cost per click and your landing page’s conversion rate. For context, LocaliQ’s 2026 benchmarks across thousands of mostly US accounts show an average cost per click of $5.42, a conversion rate of 8.18% and a cost per lead of $66.69 (LocaliQ). Clicks in Pakistan are usually far cheaper than US clicks, but competitive local niches can still surprise people.
| Benchmark (Search ads, 2026) | All industries | Real estate | Legal services | Home & home improvement |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Average cost per click | $5.42 | $3.22 | $9.87 | $8.33 |
| Click-through rate | 6.64% | 7.61% | 5.87% | 6.47% |
| Conversion rate | 8.18% | 3.70% | 5.55% | 8.05% |
| Cost per lead | $66.69 | $102.51 | $131.63 | $90.92 |
Source: LocaliQ search advertising benchmarks, mostly US accounts. Use these to compare industries, not as Pakistan prices.
The real lesson in that table isn’t the dollar figures. Real estate has cheap clicks and an expensive cost per lead, because property buyers click a lot and enquire rarely. In niches like that, the landing page and the lead form decide your profit, not the click price.
A practical rule: give a new account enough budget to collect at least 30 conversions a month. Below that, Google’s automated bidding has too little data to learn from, and every decision becomes a guess.
Which Google Ads campaign types should you use?
Google now offers seven main campaign types, and choosing the wrong one is one of the fastest ways to burn a budget. Here is how they compare and who each one suits.
| Campaign type | Where ads show | Best for | Pros | Watch out for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Search | Google search results | Lead generation, services, B2B, high-intent sales | Highest intent; full control of keywords and messages | Limited by search volume; needs negative keywords |
| Performance Max | Search, YouTube, Display, Gmail, Maps, Discover | E-commerce and lead gen with solid conversion data | Reaches every Google channel; strong automation | Little transparency; can take credit for brand searches |
| Shopping | Product listings with image and price | Online stores | Shoppers see price before clicking | Needs a clean Merchant Center product feed |
| YouTube / Video | YouTube and Google video partners | Awareness, education, retargeting | Explains complex products; cheap views | Rarely closes sales alone |
| Demand Gen | YouTube Shorts, Discover, Gmail | Visual products, mid-funnel audiences | Social-style creative inside Google | Needs strong images and video |
| Display | Millions of websites and apps | Retargeting, cheap reach | Low cost per impression | Lots of low-quality placements and accidental clicks |
| App | Play Store, search, YouTube | App installs and in-app actions | Fully automated across Google | Optimise for actions, not just installs |
Search vs Performance Max: which should you run first?
For most businesses in Pakistan, Search first. Search gives you control: you choose the keywords, read the actual search terms, block the irrelevant ones and write ads for each intent. It also builds the conversion data that automation needs.
Performance Max is powerful once you have that data, typically 30 or more conversions a month and clean tracking. Launch it on day one with a new account and it will hunt for the cheapest conversions it can find, which is often your own brand name or low-quality form fills. I usually add it once Search is profitable, with brand exclusions and separate asset groups for each product or service line.
When do YouTube and Demand Gen ads make sense?
When your product needs explaining or showing. Housing projects, education programmes, clinics, SaaS and premium products all benefit from a 30 to 90 second video that answers the first objections. YouTube is also the cheapest way to retarget people who visited your site but didn’t enquire. Just don’t judge YouTube on direct sales alone. Judge it on how much it lifts your Search conversions and branded searches.

What could your ad budget return?
What does professional Google Ads management include?
Good management is 20% setup and 80% ongoing decisions. Here is what should happen in a well-run account, and what you should expect from whoever manages yours.
| Area | What it involves | How often |
|---|---|---|
| Account audit & structure | Campaigns grouped by intent and product; no overlap between campaigns | At the start, then quarterly |
| Conversion tracking | GA4, Google Tag Manager, enhanced conversions, call and WhatsApp tracking, offline conversions from your CRM | At the start, then checked weekly |
| Keywords & negatives | Adding winning searches, blocking irrelevant ones | Weekly |
| Ads & assets | Testing headlines, offers, sitelinks, images, calls | Every 2–4 weeks |
| Bids & budgets | Choosing bid strategies; moving budget to what converts | Weekly |
| Landing pages | Matching each campaign to a focused page; fixing speed and forms | Monthly |
| Reporting | Leads, sales, cost per acquisition and ROAS in plain language | Monthly, with weekly checks |
Conversion tracking: the step most accounts get wrong
If you take one thing from this guide, take this. Google optimises for whatever you tell it is a conversion. Count page views, button clicks or every WhatsApp tap as conversions, and Google will find you more page views and button clicks. Your dashboard improves while your sales don’t.
Proper tracking separates real outcomes from noise: submitted forms, qualified calls over 60 seconds, WhatsApp chats that became leads, and ideally sales imported back from your CRM. In one Dubai home improvement account I took over, cleaning up tracking and removing campaigns that were bidding against each other turned the same 30,000 AED budget into a 3.3x return. The full story is in the Dubai PPC case study, and the tracking side is covered on our CRO and tracking service page.
Freelancer, agency or consultant: who should manage your Google Ads?
Each option can work. The question is what you need and how much risk you can afford.
| Option | Pros | Cons | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Do it yourself | No fees; you know your business | Steep learning curve; costly trial and error; no time | Very small budgets and hands-on owners |
| Freelancer | Affordable; flexible | Quality varies widely; often execution only, no strategy or tracking | Simple accounts with clear goals |
| Agency | A team and processes | Senior people sell, juniors manage; long contracts; accounts sometimes owned by the agency | Larger brands needing many channels |
| Senior consultant | Senior experience on your account; strategy, tracking and execution joined up | Limited capacity; not the cheapest hourly rate | Businesses that need ROI, a turnaround or a second opinion |
Whichever you pick, insist on three things: you own the account, you see the real numbers, and you get a clear plan for the next 90 days.
What are the most common Google Ads mistakes businesses make in Pakistan?
I audit a lot of accounts. The same five mistakes cause most of the waste, and none of them are about the size of the budget.
Why are my Google Ads getting clicks but no sales?
Usually because of broad keywords with no negative keyword list. “Car rental” brings in people searching for car rental jobs, car rental business ideas and free car rental apps. Each click costs money and none of them will ever buy.
Fix: review the search terms report weekly, build negatives from day one, and use phrase or exact match until you have data.Is cheap Google Ads management a false economy?
Very often. A PKR 15,000 monthly management fee looks like a saving until you see that half a 500,000 budget went to the wrong searches. The cheapest option is rarely the one with the lowest fee. It’s the one that wastes the least budget.
Fix: judge any manager on cost per qualified lead and on the tracking they set up, not on their fee or the number of clicks.Sending every ad to the homepage
Someone searching “orthodontist in DHA Lahore” lands on a clinic homepage with a slider and twelve services. They leave. A focused page about braces in DHA, with prices, reviews and a WhatsApp button, would have booked them.
Fix: one landing page per service or campaign theme, loading in under 3 seconds on mobile.Letting Google’s recommendations run the account
Auto-applied recommendations, broad match everywhere and “maximise clicks” bidding are designed to spend your budget, not protect your margin. Left unchecked, these settings can quietly push your budget into display placements such as mobile games and apps.
Fix: turn off auto-apply, review each recommendation, and choose bid strategies based on your conversion data.Judging results after one week
New campaigns go through a learning period. Pausing and changing everything in week one resets that learning and guarantees poor results.
Fix: agree a 30 to 60 day evaluation window with clear targets for cost per lead or ROAS before you start. How long does Google Ads take to work, and how do you measure ROI?
Search campaigns can bring leads on day one. Reliable, profitable results usually take 30 to 90 days, because that is how long it takes to collect enough data, clean out wasted searches and let bidding learn. Here is how that period usually runs in accounts I manage.
Which KPIs matter: cost per lead, CPA, ROAS or lead quality?
Clicks, impressions and click-through rate are diagnostic numbers. They tell you why something is happening. The numbers that tell you whether Google Ads is working are further down the funnel.
| KPI | What it tells you | Use it when |
|---|---|---|
| Cost per qualified lead | What a real sales opportunity costs | Services, B2B, real estate, education |
| Cost per acquisition (CPA) | What a paying customer costs | You can track sales or sign-ups |
| ROAS | Revenue for every rupee or dollar spent | E-commerce and online sales |
| Lead-to-sale rate | Whether the ads bring the right people | Always. Ask your sales team weekly |
| Impression share | How much available demand you’re capturing | Deciding whether to scale |
How do you calculate ROAS and ROI for Google Ads?
ROAS = revenue from ads ÷ ad spend. If PKR 200,000 of ads brings PKR 900,000 in sales, your ROAS is 4.5.
ROI = (profit from ads − total cost) ÷ total cost. ROI includes your product margin and management fees, so it is the number that decides whether you’re actually making money. A 4.5 ROAS on a product with a 15% margin can still lose money, while a 2.5 ROAS on a 70% margin service can be very profitable. That is exactly why I work from margins, not just ROAS, as I did when cutting an international e-commerce brand’s advertising cost of sale from 35% to 20% (case study).
How SaadConsults manages Google Ads for businesses in Pakistan and abroad
By now you know more about Google Ads than most people who sell it. You know it’s an auction that rewards relevance, that tracking decides what Google learns, that Search usually comes first, and that the costliest mistakes are invisible on a dashboard. The question is whether you want to spend the next six months learning this with your own budget, or have someone who has already made those mistakes on other people’s money fix it in the first 30 days.
I’m Saad. Since 2010 I’ve managed more than $200 million in ad spend across 30,000+ campaigns for 600+ clients in 26 industries. That includes an automated Google Ads funnel that sold 1,300 courses for a Texas academy at 450% ROI, and a Dubai account that went to 3.3x ROAS on the same budget. You work with me directly, not with a junior account manager.

Frequently asked questions about Google Ads in Pakistan
How much does Google Ads cost per month in Pakistan?
There is no fixed price. You set your own budget and pay per click through an auction. Work out your budget from the leads or sales you need multiplied by your expected cost per lead. A new account should have enough budget to reach about 30 conversions a month so automated bidding can learn.
Can I pay for Google Ads in Pakistani rupees?
Yes. You can set your account currency to PKR and pay with a debit or credit card that allows international online payments. Some banks block these by default, so enable online international transactions first. Your account currency cannot be changed later.
Is Google Ads better than Facebook ads for small businesses?
Google Ads is better when customers already search for your product or service, because you reach them at the moment of need. Facebook ads are better for creating demand for new or visual products. Many small businesses get the best results by starting with Google Search and adding Facebook retargeting.
How long does it take for Google Ads to work?
Search ads can bring leads within days, but profitable, stable results usually take 30 to 90 days while the account collects data, removes wasted searches and lets bidding learn.
What is a good conversion rate for Google Ads?
It depends on the industry. LocaliQ’s 2026 benchmarks put the average at about 8% across industries, but real estate averages closer to 4%. Compare yourself with your own industry and focus on improving cost per qualified lead.
Do I need a website to run Google Ads?
For most campaigns, yes: a fast, focused landing page matters more than a big website. You can run call-only ads or send traffic to a Google Business Profile, but a dedicated page usually converts far better.
Should I use Performance Max or Search campaigns?
Start with Search for control and clean data. Add Performance Max once you have reliable conversion tracking and around 30 or more conversions a month, with brand exclusions so it doesn’t just take credit for people already searching your name.
Who owns the Google Ads account if I hire someone?
You should. Always insist the account is created under your own Google account with admin access for you. With me, clients keep full ownership of their accounts, data and assets.
