Pakistan had about 117 million internet users by October 2025, and 194 million cellular mobile connections by the end of the year (DataReportal, Digital 2026 Pakistan). One detail surprises most owners I meet: Ookla’s median mobile download speed in Pakistan (24.32 Mbps) was higher than the median fixed broadband speed (16.28 Mbps). Your customers are judging your website on a phone, often on mobile data, usually while they also have your WhatsApp chat open.
Last year a furniture retailer sent me his new website before a meeting. It had cost him months and a large cheque. On my laptop it looked beautiful. On my phone, over mobile data, the home page slider took so long to load that I gave up and opened his Instagram instead. His contact form sent enquiries to an email address nobody checked, and there was no analytics at all. He had no idea whether the site had brought a single customer.
Pakistani businesses don’t lack websites; they lack websites that work as a sales system. This guide is the first meeting I’d have with you before building one.
Key takeaways
- A business website has four jobs: sell, rank, get cited by AI search and track. Design serves those jobs; it doesn’t replace them.
- WordPress suits service businesses and content-heavy sites, Shopify suits product stores that want less maintenance, and custom code is only worth it when your process is truly unique.
- Shopify Payments isn’t available in Pakistan, so every store needs a local gateway plan: mobile wallets, cards, Raast and usually cash on delivery.
- Speed is measured on real phones: aim for LCP under 2.5 seconds, INP under 200 ms and CLS under 0.1.
- No trustworthy published PKR price list exists. Judge a quote by what it includes, then measure the site on leads and sales, not visits.
What should a business website in Pakistan actually do in 2026?
People searching for “website development” or a “web development company in Pakistan” are really asking for more customers. Start with the site’s jobs, then choose the technology.
Why does a website still matter when sales happen on WhatsApp?
WhatsApp is where the deal closes, not where trust starts. Before messaging you, customers want to see prices, real photos, reviews and delivery terms; if they can’t, they message a competitor. A good website also does something WhatsApp can’t: it gives Google, Meta and AI tools a place to understand your business, and it gives you data on which ads and pages actually bring buyers.
What are the four jobs every business website must do?
- Sell: one clear offer per page, prices or price ranges where possible, proof (reviews, case photos, certifications), and an obvious next step: WhatsApp, call-back form or checkout.
- Rank: a page for each service, product category and city you want to be found for, fast on mobile, with clean headings and internal links. This is where SEO and AI search optimisation starts, at the build stage, not after launch.
- Get cited by AI search: Google’s AI Overviews, ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity quote pages that answer questions plainly in text. Facts hidden in images and sliders don’t get cited.
- Track: GA4 key events, Meta Pixel with Conversions API, and lead stages from your CRM or WhatsApp team, so you know which channel produced which sale.
WordPress, Shopify or custom: which is right for website development in Pakistan?
Pick the platform that fits how you sell and who will run the site after launch.
When is WordPress the right choice?
WordPress runs about 39.5% of all websites and 58.2% of sites with a known content management system (W3Techs, 30 October 2026). That means plenty of developers in Lahore, Karachi or Islamabad, plugins for local gateways and couriers, and no lock-in to one agency.
WordPress is my default for service businesses, clinics, schools, real estate, B2B companies and anyone who will publish content to rank. With WooCommerce it also runs online stores well, especially when you need local payment plugins, custom delivery rules or Urdu content. The catch: it’s only as good as its build. Built lean, with updates and backups, it is fast and flexible.
When does Shopify make more sense?
Shopify suits product brands such as clothing, cosmetics and fragrance that want a clean checkout and little server maintenance.
Know the limits before you choose it. Shopify Payments is not available in Pakistan; Shopify’s own list of supported countries doesn’t include it and says stores outside those countries must use a third-party payment provider (Shopify Help Center). So check which Pakistani gateway, wallet and courier apps work with your plan before you commit. Shopify’s fees are also charged in foreign currency, so your running costs move with the exchange rate.
When do you need custom development?
Custom code (Laravel, Next.js or similar) makes sense for portals, marketplaces, booking engines or anything where the website is the product. If a quote proposes custom code for a ten-page service site, ask why.
| Platform | Best for | Strengths in Pakistan | Watch out for |
|---|---|---|---|
| WordPress | Service businesses, B2B, clinics, schools, real estate, content-led SEO | Many local developers; plugins for local gateways and couriers; full control of SEO | Slow, insecure builds with heavy themes and too many plugins; needs updates and backups |
| WordPress + WooCommerce | Stores with custom delivery rules, COD logic or large catalogues | Flexible checkout; local payment plugins; no platform fee per sale | Needs good hosting and caching as the catalogue grows |
| Shopify | Fashion, beauty and product brands | Fast checkout, stable hosting, strong app store | No Shopify Payments in Pakistan; fees in foreign currency; some apps add weight |
| Custom code | Portals, marketplaces, booking engines, software products | Built exactly around your process | Higher cost, slower changes, dependence on one developer |
AI website builders and AI-written copy deserve a word here. I use AI every day to draft page outlines, write code snippets and check content gaps, but it is an assistant, not a leader. It doesn’t know your margins, what customers ask on WhatsApp or which page brings buyers. Research on consultants using GPT-4 found they performed worse on a task just outside the AI’s abilities (The Harvard Crimson), and an MIT report found that 95% of corporate generative AI pilots stalled without measurable returns (Computing). Let AI speed up the build; let someone accountable decide what the site must achieve.
How do you build an online store in Pakistan that actually gets paid?
E-commerce in Pakistan has its own rules: wallets beat cards, cash on delivery is still expected for many products, and connectivity can drop for reasons nobody in your company controls. Build for that reality. If e-commerce is your core business, my e-commerce marketing page covers the channels that feed the store.
Which payment options should a Pakistani online store offer?
Offer the methods your customers already use. According to the State Bank of Pakistan’s Payment Systems Review for FY25, about 93% of online purchases paid digitally went through mobile wallets and bank accounts, up from 87% the year before, with cards far behind (ProPakistani, SBP data). A store that only takes cards is ignoring most digital payers.
Raast is the other change to plan for. The SBP directed banks and financial institutions to enable Raast person-to-merchant payments for businesses selling in store or online by 31 March 2025, through QR codes, Raast IDs, IBAN and request-to-pay (ProPakistani). Ask your bank or payment provider how Raast acceptance can sit inside your checkout.
A practical checkout offers mobile wallets, cards through a local gateway, bank transfer or Raast, and cash on delivery where it makes sense. Start merchant onboarding early; it often takes longer than the build.
How do you handle cash on delivery without losing money?
COD brings orders from people who don’t trust paying online yet, but every refused parcel costs you delivery both ways. The website can reduce that:
- Confirm before dispatch: an automatic WhatsApp or SMS confirmation that needs a reply before the parcel ships.
- Reward prepayment: a small discount or free delivery for wallet and card payments.
- Clear product pages: size charts, real photos, delivery times and return terms reduce refusals.
- Measure delivered sales: report revenue after refusals and returns, not orders placed.
Where should you host a website for visitors in Pakistan?
I haven’t found a reliable public benchmark comparing local and foreign hosting for Pakistani visitors. In my builds, server caching and a content delivery network matter more than the server’s country. Test from Pakistan on a phone over mobile data.
Plan for bad days too. In January 2025, damage to the AAE-1 submarine cable near Qatar slowed internet speeds across Pakistan, as the PTA confirmed (Profit by Pakistan Today). You can’t fix a cable. You can keep your pages light, compress images, cache properly and keep a WhatsApp fallback visible, so the site still sells when connections are slow.

What could your ad budget return?
How do you make a website fast, SEO-ready and citable by AI search?
These are really one job: a fast, well-structured page with plain answers is what Google ranks, AI tools quote and customers trust.
What Core Web Vitals scores should a Pakistani website aim for?
Google’s Core Web Vitals measure how real visitors experience your pages. The targets for a “good” score are Largest Contentful Paint (LCP) of 2.5 seconds or less, Interaction to Next Paint (INP) of 200 milliseconds or less and Cumulative Layout Shift (CLS) of 0.1 or less, measured at the 75th percentile of page loads, separately for mobile and desktop. INP replaced First Input Delay as a Core Web Vital in 2024 (web.dev).
| Metric | What it measures | Good score | Common cause of failure in Pakistani sites |
|---|---|---|---|
| LCP | How fast the main content appears | 2.5 s or less | Huge hero sliders, uncompressed images, slow shared hosting |
| INP | How fast the page responds to taps | 200 ms or less | Page builders, chat widgets and tracking scripts loading all at once |
| CLS | How much the layout jumps while loading | 0.1 or less | Banners, pop-ups and images without set dimensions |
Thresholds from web.dev, Web Vitals. The causes column is from my own audits.
What site structure helps Google and AI tools understand your business?
Google says plainly that there are no extra requirements and no special optimisation needed to appear in AI Overviews or AI Mode: a page must be indexed and eligible to show in Search with a snippet. Its best practices are the fundamentals: allow crawling, link pages internally, give a good page experience, keep important content in text, and keep structured data consistent with what the page shows (Google Search Central). Google also says you don’t need special AI text files or extra schema for this.
In practice, I build every site on this structure:
- One page per search intent: a page for “kitchen renovation in Lahore” and another for “kitchen renovation cost”, not one page trying to rank for everything.
- Answer first: each page opens with a two or three sentence answer, then the detail. This is what AI tools tend to quote.
- Facts in text: prices, service areas, opening hours, delivery times and policies written on the page, not inside images or PDFs.
- Clean headings and internal links: H2s and H3s phrased the way customers ask, with links between related services, locations and case studies.
- Accurate structured data: Organization, LocalBusiness, Product and FAQ markup that matches the visible page, plus an up-to-date Google Business Profile.
What tracking should be installed before a website goes live?
Before launch I set up:
- GA4 with key events: form submissions, WhatsApp clicks, calls, add to cart, checkout and purchase. Google renamed GA4 “conversions” to key events in 2024 to align reporting with Google Ads; a key event counts as a conversion only when it’s shared with Google Ads (Search Engine Roundtable).
- Google Tag Manager: one container for all tags, so marketing changes don’t need a developer.
- Meta Pixel and Conversions API together: the Pixel in the browser and the API from your server, with matching event IDs so sales aren’t counted twice. If you run Facebook and Instagram ads, my Meta ads management service starts with exactly this check.
- Lead and order stages: a way to mark which enquiries became customers, from your CRM, store backend or WhatsApp team, and send that back to the ad platforms.
The difference between a WhatsApp click and a real lead matters. For the Dubai blinds brand I mentioned, every tap on the WhatsApp button had been counted as a conversion, and reported numbers were up to ten times higher than real enquiries. Once taps and genuine leads were tracked separately, the business finally had numbers it could trust. My CRO and tracking service covers this in depth.
How much does website development cost in Pakistan, and how do you measure ROI?
Quotes for a “business website” in Pakistan vary enormously, and both the cheapest and the most expensive can be poor value.
Is there a reliable price list for websites in Pakistan?
No. I haven’t found a trustworthy published source for website development prices in Pakistan in PKR. Price lists online come from agencies selling their own packages, and they compare very different things. So I won’t give you a number that pretends to be a market rate. What you can do is compare quotes on what they include, using the table below.
What goes into a website development quote?
| Cost component | What drives the price | Question to ask the developer |
|---|---|---|
| Strategy and sitemap | Number of services, products, cities and audiences | Which pages target which searches, and why? |
| Design | Template vs custom design; number of unique page layouts | Will I see the mobile design before the desktop one? |
| Content | Who writes the copy; photography; Urdu and English versions | Who writes the text, and is it written for search and AI answers? |
| Development | Platform, features, integrations (gateways, couriers, CRM, booking) | Which plugins or apps will you use, and who maintains them? |
| E-commerce setup | Catalogue size, variants, payment methods, COD rules, shipping zones | Which Pakistani payment methods will the checkout support? |
| Tracking | GA4, Tag Manager, Pixel and Conversions API, CRM connection | Which key events will be tracked, and how will you test them? |
| Migration and SEO | Old pages, rankings and backlinks to keep | Will every old URL be redirected to its new page? |
| Hosting and care | Server quality, CDN, backups, updates, security monitoring | Who owns the domain, hosting and admin logins after launch? |
Whatever the price, agree in writing what “done” means, including speed targets and the list of tracked events, not only how the home page looks.
How do you calculate the ROI of a new website?
Set a baseline before launch: monthly enquiries or orders, conversion rate, cost per lead from ads and organic traffic to money pages. Then compare the same numbers 90 days after launch.
Website ROI = (extra gross profit from the site − website cost) ÷ website cost. Here is an example with made-up numbers, not a benchmark: if a new site lifts your landing page conversion rate from 2% to 3% on 10,000 paid visits a month, that is 100 extra leads every month from the same ad budget. If one in ten becomes a customer worth PKR 20,000 in gross profit, the site adds PKR 200,000 of profit a month. Compare that with what the site cost, and you have a decision based on numbers.
A faster, clearer landing page also lowers your cost per lead on Google Ads and Meta without changing the bid, so treat the website as part of the marketing budget.
What are the most common website development mistakes in Pakistan?
Why is my new website getting traffic but no enquiries?
The site was designed to impress in the pitch meeting, not to sell. Prices are hidden, the WhatsApp button is buried and forms go to an inbox nobody reads.
Fix: give every key page one offer, a price or range, proof and one clear next step. Send forms to WhatsApp or a CRM with an alert, and test it from a phone every month. Why did my Google rankings drop after a website redesign?
Old URLs were deleted without redirects, or pages that ranked were merged or rewritten. Years of search authority disappear overnight, and enquiries fall weeks later when nobody connects the two.
Fix: crawl the old site before the redesign, map every ranking URL to its new page with a 301 redirect, keep the content that ranks and check Search Console daily for the first weeks. Why is my WordPress website so slow on mobile?
A heavy theme, a slider, uncompressed images and a dozen plugins load on every page, on cheap shared hosting. Mobile visitors leave before they see your offer.
Fix: use a lightweight theme, remove unused plugins, compress and resize images, add server caching and a CDN, and check Core Web Vitals on real mobile data, not only on your office Wi-Fi.Launching a website without GA4 and Pixel tracking
Without tracking you can’t tell which channel brings sales, your ads optimise for clicks and your developer’s work can’t be judged. I also often find tracking that counts every WhatsApp tap or page refresh as a “conversion”.
Fix: agree the key events before the build, install them through Tag Manager, add the Conversions API, and test each event against real orders and leads before launch.Letting the developer own your domain and hosting
The developer registers the domain and hosting in their own name. When the relationship ends, you lose access to your own site, email or analytics.
Fix: register the domain, hosting, Google and Meta accounts in your company’s name and email, and give the developer user access only. Ask for all logins and a full backup at handover. How I build websites for businesses in Pakistan
You now know that a website has four jobs, that the platform should follow your sales process, that Pakistani payments and connectivity need their own plan, and that a site without tracking can’t prove anything. You could learn the rest by rebuilding and losing rankings, or work with someone who builds websites as part of the marketing system.
I’m Saad. Since 2010 I’ve worked with 600+ clients in 26+ industries and managed more than $200 million in ad spend, which is why I build websites from the conversion backwards. I build on WordPress and Shopify, I work remotely with clients in Pakistan and abroad, and you work with me directly. You can see the service on my WordPress website development page.

Frequently asked questions
How long does it take to build a business website in Pakistan?
It depends on the number of pages, features and how fast content and approvals come in. A focused service site moves much faster than a store with a large catalogue and payment gateways, where merchant onboarding often takes longer than the build itself. Agree a timeline with clear stages before you start.
Can I accept JazzCash or Easypaisa payments on my website?
Yes, through the provider’s merchant account or a payment gateway that supports mobile wallets. Each provider has its own onboarding, documents and fees, so start the application early and check that a plugin or app exists for your platform.
Is Shopify available in Pakistan?
You can run a Shopify store from Pakistan, but Shopify Payments is not available there, so you need a third-party payment provider for online payments and usually cash on delivery as well.
Should my website be in Urdu or English?
Follow your customers. English works for B2B, premium and overseas audiences; Urdu or Roman Urdu content can help for mass-market products and local services. If you add Urdu pages, make them separate, properly linked versions so they don’t compete with your English pages.
Do I need a website if I sell on Instagram and WhatsApp?
You can sell without one, but a website gives you trust, Google and AI search visibility, a checkout that works while you sleep and the tracking your ads need to optimise for sales. It also protects you if a social account is restricted.
Who should own my domain and hosting?
You. Register them in your company’s name with your company email, and give developers user access only. The same applies to Google Analytics, Search Console, Tag Manager and Meta Business accounts.
